Intradural Lumbar Disc Herniation: Report of Two Cases and Review of the Literature
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Importance: Intradural lumbar disc herniation is a rare and uncommon presentation of lumbar disc herniation. It signifies a challenge for diagnostic and therapeutic scheme, and is associated with a greater incidence of cauda equina syndrome at presentation. Case Presentation: We describe two cases of intradural disc herniation who underwent surgery in Senegal review literature, and discuss difficulties in the preoperative diagnosis, surgical technique and functional outcome of our patients. Conclusion: We conclude that diagnosis of this affection in developing countries is done during surgery, and the functional outcome of patients can be excellent.

an incidence that ranges from 0.26% to 0.30% of all herniated discs (1). Myelography, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are generally used to diagnose intradural lumbar disc herniation (IDLDH), but there can be some differences according to each case. Several studies have reported of a potential association between intradural disc herniation and gas within the spinal...

Abstract Background: Far lateral discal herniation is an uncommon disorder and is difficult to assess by physical examination alone. This study is designed to define clinical and epidemiological findings and to establish the indications of surgical and medical treatment for FLLDH. Methods: Between 2000 and 2005, a total of 2035 patients with lumbar disc herniation underwent surgical...

Intradural tumours of the spine are usually benign and have a good prognosis, if they are diagnosed and removed early. Lumbar disc herniation is a common cause of chronic, acute, or recurrent lumbar radiculopathy. However, to date, there have been no reports of progressive neurological deficiencies due to the co-existence of two significant pathologies contributing to intradural and extradural ...

lumbar disc herniation (ldh) is the most common cause of sciatica and only in about 10% of the affected patients, surgical intervention is necessary. the side of the patient (the side of most prominent clinical complaints) is usually consistent with the side of imaging (the side with most prominent disc herniation on imaging scans). in this case series, we presented our experience in four cases...
full textSpontaneous Resolution of Symptomatic Thoracic Spine Calcified Disc Herniation: A Case Report and Literature Review
Calcification of intervertebral disc (IVD) is an uncommon but well-defined clinical syndrome in children. Despite its benign nature, occasionally, calcified nucleus pulposus can herniate into the spinal canal. We report an interesting case of calcified disc herniation in the thoracic spine. Although it resulted in cord compression and syrinx formation, it well responded to conservative manageme...
